IETA EU POLICY DIRECTOR

The International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) is a non-profit business organisation dedicated to supporting the development of carbon pricing mechanisms worldwide.

IETA is recruiting for the key role of EU Policy Director in its Brussels office.


IETA has played an important role in EU carbon pricing discussions for over two decades. As an EU Policy Director, your role will be to ensure that IETA engages constructively with policymakers and other stakeholders to advance market-based climate policies to deliver the EU net zero ambition.


Tasks and responsibilities include:
  • Lead the IETA EU Team, provide support and supervise deliverables.
  • Represent the interests of IETA members in Brussels.
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies.
  • Track and analyse relevant EU climate policy developments.
  • Oversee the formulation of IETA positions in collaboration with member companies.
  • Provide regular briefings on policy and market developments to IETA members.
  • Organise meetings with IETA members, and work closely with IETA’s EU Working Group co-chairs on EU-related matters.
  • Represent IETA in conferences and meetings by presenting IETA’s views and networking with other participants.
  • Organise and facilitate IETA’s EU Working Group meetings and relevant IETA events, both virtual and in-person.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in Brussels, liaise with other business associations, companies, academia and NGOs active in climate policy debates.
  • Respond to queries and requests from IETA Members.  
     
Competences and Experience Required:  
  • At least 7 years of relevant work experience in EU Affairs.
  • Proven experience of managing a team.
  • Proven experience of coordination with complementary teams
  • A strong strategic vision, managing to key objectives and KPIs
  • A comprehensive understanding of EU carbon pricing policy, and EU political landscape. 
  • Strong knowledge of EU institutions and the EU legislative process.  
  • An established network of contacts in Brussels.  
  • Ability to write clearly for different audiences and speak at external events.  
  • Excellent policy analysis.  
  • A strong personal record in carbon markets/carbon pricing.
  • Ability to work flexibly and with high levels of autonomy, as part of a small team.  
  • Excellent spoken and written English. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage.  
Place of work: Brussels, with occasional travel to other major European cities, and further afield when necessary. Approximately 10-20% of your time may involve travel.
Reporting to: Managing Director Policy
Salary and benefits: 
  • 25 days holiday
  • Package will be commensurate with experience.
